Caption/Description

While talking trash to a neighbor and fellow racer on his cordless phone, Leo Wernet scans the sky above his backyard for about three hours looking for signs of his racing pigeons in St. Clair Shores. Wurnet entered 23 birds in this race and only nine of them returned, bad results for the life-long pigeon racer. People from West Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania called the The Eastside Members Pigeon Racers Club to report they had some of the birds, which lost their way during the race. Fellow pigeon racers are usually kind and will send pigeons back to their owners via air mail, of course.
