LANDOVER, MARYLAND, 2007. The body of Army Sgt. Princess C. Samuels lies in an open coffin in her family church in Landover, Maryland. An imagery specialist, she was killed by what the military called “indirect fire” in Taji, Iraq—one of more than 100 female U.S. troops to be killed in action since the war began in March 2003.
