Students from the University of Mississippi throw bottles, rocks, and anything they could lay their hands on at troops around the courthouse in downtown Oxford, Oct. 1st. The students, rioting to protest the registration of Negro James Meredith in the University, were dispersed when the troops used tear gas and bayonets.
